Monday’s always a tough day, getting back into things. I don’t know why people always want to start something new, like a diet or fitness regimen on a Monday. Yes, I get that it’s like day 1 at the start of the week but really, after a Sunday my Monday’s are usually a little bit bleh… Tuesday would be a better start day. Ah, but then I’d slack on Monday’s and the vicious cycle would continue… Continue reading “Monday Leg Day”
Our friends apartment complex threw a pool party on Saturday – and we got to be 2 lucky guests! Since I was going to be eating BBQ, drinking beer, enjoying popsicles – all while in a bathing suit, I needed to sweat a little in the morning to make some room. Continue reading “Saturday Sweat”
We were planning a girl’s night for this week when we realized it was one of our friends birthday’s too, so we wrapped those together in a nice little bow and headed to the aquarium!
If you haven’t been to the aquarium in Charleston yet, go. I’ll wait. If you can’t go right now, go soon! I’ve been 3 times in less than 2 years of living here and would go again tomorrow.
BUT on this particular Thursday, they added wine and beer to the evening mix. Continue reading “Tabata x2”
The title says it all – its quick, it targets the booty, and it’s gonna burn. But oh so gooooood!
The Spartan race website has a training schedule you can access from their website or get it daily in your email. The thing I really like about this is they tell you all the workouts for the week. So if you’re like me and like to do a bunch of different things or try a new class, you can pick and choose your Spartan workout!
I have a serious obsession with Tone It Up’s Lemon Honey Chia Overnight Oats. They are so delicious, perfect for summer, a great combo of flavors, and filling. Sometimes too filling.
You may say, “Well Alaina, don’t eat the whole thing at once”. To which I respond “Ha!” Impossible. It’s like breakfast dessert. Continue reading “Lemon Honey Smoothie”
Things we don’t do – order Chinese food.
Things I wanted last night – fried rice. Continue reading “Healthy Fried Rice”
First is my personal story. You can skip to the bottom where I get into some research about how your running form and timing may affect your joint pain. Also – links to the information!
I’ve been dealing with a knee issue for a couple years now. Not sure how I came to injure my knee, there’s no moment I can point back to and say “hmm that’s probably the culprit”. I do know winter was ending and over that winter I was lifting heavy with my trainer and hardly running – hello Maryland winter.
I complained to him about it and we really concentrated on proper form, keeping knees out during squats especially, and strengthening the muscles around it. This helped some. And as soon as it started to hurt we’d pull back.
I went to a doctor for an X-ray a couple months after I initially had pain and they told me nothing was wrong and essentially shooed me out of the office like I was a pest or faking it. Continue reading “Knee Pain from running? Minor adjustments could help”
Canon had physical therapy this morning for his bicep tear and asked me to tag along for his appointment so we could listen to our podcast. Not an opportunity I was going to turn down.
This worked out as I usually use Thursday’s as a sort-of-rest day and I didn’t have any light workout planned. By sort-of-rest, I mean I do something less taxing than usual. By Wednesday my body is pretty sore and tired – as you can see from my previous post about being tired… But I like to still get my body moving a little bit. Pump up my metabolism, get a little sweat on, nothing too crazy but just enough to get some activity in. Continue reading “Arms & Abs with TIU!”
Today was just one of those days where I did not feel like working out. I got up late, shuffled around the kitchen, checked Facebook for way too long, pretty much anything to avoid the garage. Eventually, I sucked it up and went out there. But not enthusiastically.
As I got out there and figured out what I was doing, I started to warm up a little bit. Then my neighbor who I haven’t seen in a while came out with her dog and baby, so of course I had to go see them. After chatting for a while I went back in to finish warming up. You see how much I was avoiding my actual workout??
“Alright Alaina. Get it together. You can’t go inside until you’re done. You’ll feel better when you finish it”. Sometimes I just want to tell myself to shut up. Continue reading “Tired Strength”
